All recipients of federal financial aid (including Direct Loans) are instructed to complete the Title IV Authorization form through Banner Self Service. This important form instructs Brown on how to apply the federal funding toward your student account charges.
Title IV financial aid funds are automatically credited only toward tuition, fees, and on-campus housing and meal plan charges.
Students are allowed to authorize Title IV financial aid funds to pay other student account charges (bookstore, health insurance, pharmacy, library fees, etc.)
Students choose Yes or No to the following 3 items:
- Apply Title IV funds toward other student account charges (beyond tuition, fees, and on-campus housing and meals)
- Apply Title IV funds toward outstanding prior year charges (up to $200)
- Retain excess Title IV funds toward future charges for the current award year
By selecting Yes to all 3 items, federal aid funds are used toward direct billed educational expenses. By selecting No, students will receive a refund of the excess federal aid (above tuition, fees, housing/meals) and will be required to pay any other student account charges out of pocket.
